Tallahatchie County is a north Delta county with two county seats: Charleston and Sumner. The Tallahatchie River runs through the county, and the landscape is predominantly flat Delta farmland transitioning to low hills in the east. Sumner gained historical significance as the location of the 1955 Emmett Till murder trial.
Today the county is deeply rural and agricultural, with affordable Delta-edge farmland and some hill-country timber in the east.
